Hello there! My name is Gavin, I’m a 28 year old self-taught software engineer. I’ve got a decade of experience coding, and 5 years working professionally in the field.

I live in Richmond, VA — the river city. When I’m not in front of a terminal I like getting outdoors in nature, hiking, trail running, and exploring.

Brief History

I spent 2 years in college studying computer science at JMU. I dropped out after losing passion in academia, and after that I spent several years working odd jobs and working as a freelance coder on the side. I ended up getting a job in a big Fortune 500 company doing customer service for 3 years, and this proved to be all the motivation I needed to study, work hard, and properly break into the field of software engineering.

And here we are! For the last 4 years I’ve worked at a medical education company spearheading an iOS app with a large userbase. I design, implement, and ship features for the app, along with managing support for legacy hardware and operating systems going back to iOS 14.

Lately I’ve transitioned towards more of a web development role, and I’ve been implementing business focused tooling and automation, along with architecting and building LLM integrations into the platform.

The Future

I’ve always been interested in the intersection of writing, software engineering, and human computer interfaces. I launched this site in December 2025 as a centralized hub for my technical writing and a sandbox for my latest engineering experiments.

My goal is to use this space to document complex problem-solving, share my latest projects, and contribute back to the engineering community. I have a roadmap of technical deep-dives and projects in the works that I’m excited to share.

Thanks for stopping by!

Gavin
